Oklahoma is a state located in the south central region of the United States of America. The states name is derived from Choctaw words Okla and humma, meaning the “red people”, and is known informally by its’ nickname, “The Sooner State”. It is one of the fastest growing economies in the nation, ranking among the top states in per capita income growth and gross domestic product growth.

The water taxi of Oklahoma is one of the major attractions of this place. It is one of the examples of ingenuity of the city, in order to come up with ideas to make life more enjoyable for its residents and visitors. The water taxi as the name suggests is a taxi service that operates on water. This water taxi traverses through the district covering all important entertainment and other destinations along the way.

If you want to check out the sights and sounds of life in Oklahoma City, the best way is to board a water taxi and have a relaxed ride in Bricktown, before getting down at the Harkins theatres, or one of the many eateries along the banks, which include Earl’s rib Palace, Falcone’s Pizzeria, or Toby Keith’s I Love this Bar and Grill. The other destinations that a water taxi covers consist of Red Pin bowling Lounge, Residence Inn by Mariott and the Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World.

The place where the water taxi can be boarded is located below Mickey Mantle Boulevard and in close proximity to the AT&T Bricktown Ballpark. A water taxi arrives every 10-15 minutes at the dock. Any person can board the water taxi from here or from other docks in lower Bricktown.

You can even purchase the tickets online at Bricktownwatertaxi.com, or from the ticket booth at the main dock from Oklahoma’s Red dirt Emporium. Glasgow is the largest city in Scotland, and the second most populous in United Kingdom. The city is situated on the River Clyde in the country’s west Central lowlands. A person from Glasgow is known as a Glaswegian, which is also the name of the local dialect. The city has grown to become one of the world’s prominent centers of engineering and shipbuilding, constructing many revolutionary vehicles.

Glasgow has lots of attractions to draw people to visit this enchanting city. In the North side of Hillhead, you will hit upon some of the most unique shops as well as splendid views. Roots, Fruits and Mellis, the cheese monger will provide you with loads of experimental ingredients. On the North side of Hillhead, you’ll come across student populated Gibson Street with the gorgeous Keningston Park located close by. If you are still a child at heart, then you can view the range of toys across the street at Acabus.

University buildings are well worth a visit. If you are looking for something cultural, then you can visit the Hunterian Art Gallery and Museum, which has an impressive collection of Charles Rennie Mckintosh furniture. Glasgow’s West End is certainly well worth visiting!

Gustav Stickley (1858-1942), was one of the leading architects of the American Arts and Crafts movement, a combined and planned effort that sought beauty in simple organic design. His magazine, The Craftsman, was a major forum for the movement’s ideas and concepts – ideas which today are enjoying a renaissance in the design community.

Gustav Stickley was one of the earliest proponents of Arts and Crafts movement. The Craftsman style home is also attributed to designers such as Henry Mather Greene, and Charles Sumner Greene. They were all a part of the American Arts and Craft movement, and the Craftsman home became a natural extension to the art and furniture that they then created.

Stickley stirred the idea of “true” furniture, which was plain and simple; pointing out that over-ornamented furniture was poorly made. He wanted to spread his beliefs on self-reliance so he gave tips on gardening, instructions for working with ceramics, metal, leather and textiles. In 1903, Stickley established the Craftsman Home Builders Club to spread his ideas on domestic architecture. He worked with well-known architect Harvey Ellis in designing house plans for the magazine that later appeared in two books: Craftsman Homes (1909) and More Craftsman Homes.

The inside of any Craftsmen style home has a square appearance. Rooms are usually uncluttered and spacious. The fireplaces are made up of bricks and tiles and are framed with symmetric benches and bookshelves. Heavy ceiling beams are visible throughout the homes. Each Craftsman style home most often exhibits the same style and function. Nearly all include chimneys, porches, symmetrical windows, masonry foundations, and stairs leading to the front door of the home.

Craftsmen Style homes became very popular during that period of time but eventually this art died out in wake of other designer styles. However, in recent years the Stickley style ahs become popular once more. Many people are leaving their modern homes to move into Craftsmen style homes.

Scotland is known for its’ typical Scottish music and sports. It has over 790 beautiful islands with amazing coastlines. The landscapes of Scotland are dotted with beautiful castles. The Scottish castles are as interesting as the Scottish culture and are every monument has its own story to tell. There are approximately 3000 Scottish Castles and are found in all parts of the country.

The first Castle that I’m going to discuss about is the Castle Fraser. This Scottish castle is positioned near Inverurie, which lies in the Aberdeenshire region of Scotland. This beautiful Castle has served as a background for some of the scenes shot in Bafta. The Castle was initially known as the Muchall-in-Mar and has an array of stories attached to it. The Castle Fraser is open for public view during the summer months only.

The Edinburgh Castle is the second most admired destination in Scotland. Interestingly, the Castle stands on an extinct volcano, which had risen some 340 million years ago. This Castle has been the center of military activities and can be seen against a mesmerizing skyline, where it sits majestically atop the Castle Rock.

Another Castle that’s very famous in Scotland is the Edzell Castle. David Lindsay started the construction of this Castle in the year 1520 and later on the Earl of Dalhousie, ultimately owned this castle. It is known for a rather unusual Wall Garden. Today this Castle comprises of a Tower house and also has a range of buildings within its courtyard.

Bothwell Castle has the reputation of being the largest Stone Castles in the country. It is located on a very steep river bank and around shaped tower characterizes this magnificent castle. The Bothwell Castle was constructed by William Moray.

A trip to see the Scottish castles would definitely be worth the effort!

American Banjo Museum has been founded by Brady Hunt and Jack Canine is located in Guthrie, Oklahoma. The American Banjo Museum is soon to shift to the Bricktown entertainment district in downtown Oklahoma City and is at present located in Guthrie, Oklahoma. The Banjo is a four string instrument that evolved in over 350 years in America.

The American banjo Museum thrives to promote a greater understanding and deeper appreciation of for this uniquely American instrument, which was a representative of the jazz era of 1920s and 30s. The Museum began with a collection of 60-four string tenor and plectrum banjos, each of which is richly decorated and designed and has currently acquired 200 banjos made in America (that belonged to the jazz era), from a private collection in Germany.

The Banjo Museum is very unique and holds the distinction of largest banjo collection in the world. The dramatic increase in the collection of banjos led to the shifting of the Museum from Guthrie to Bricktown in downtown Oklahoma City.

The new facility is thought to be quite notable, featuring something more than just the mere display of banjos. In fact, plans have been laid for incorporating a performance theater with 60 seats, a multimedia exhibit of the history of banjo, a vintage Shakey’s Pizza replica, gift shops as well as other additions including classrooms, offices, workshops and snack bar.

The Museum will relocate to Bricktown sometime in the middle of 2009. Once this happens, the residents as well as tourists will have another destination to lead to. It is another valuable addition to the already rich menu of attractions that the Oklahoma City offers.
